São Vicente: “Aminga” looks for new talents

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The “Aminga” campus, for sports and education, is looking for new talents in sports. 128 students participate in this campus, taking place at the Ecola Salesiana do Mindelo.

The project, which is in its second edition, was created by Cape Verdean volleyball athlete Zina Gomes and her older sister Elizabete Gomes, linked to handball, along with her brother Betinho Gomes and wife Sofia Ramalho Gomes, both basketball players, former Benfica athletes and internationals for Portugal.

It is a training project that aims to give opportunities to young people through sport and education, Zina Gomes, president of the campus’ board of directors, told Inforpress. Second edition

“This is the second edition. Last year, we did the pilot project with more than 50 participants, we learned a lot and this year we wanted to give this opportunity to more participants and we managed to bring more than 128 students”, he said.

Thus, they invited students from 13 to 18 years of age from all secondary schools on the island of São Vicente to register and almost tripled the number. Discover and reward new talents

The purpose of this campus, said the same source, is to promote the practice of handball, volleyball and basketball and classes in arts, computing and English with international professors, in addition to local teachers.

According to the coach and Portuguese international basketball player, Sofia Gomes, in addition to sports and educational training, they also want to discover and reward new talents.

Proof of this, he pointed out, is that in the first edition, two 17-year-olds were awarded scholarships, and they are currently studying at the basketball academy in Portugal, the MVP Academy, and competing in the Portuguese championship.
