Agreement With Mercosur Postponed Until January

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The signing of the agreement between the European Union (EU) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) will be postponed until January, a European source confirmed to Lusa news agency on Thursday, as reported by NM.

The European source told Lusa that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, informed EU leaders that she had postponed her trip to Brasília to sign the agreement until January 2026.

Brazil was scheduled to host a meeting on Saturday, January 20th, for the signing of the agreement, which has been under negotiation for decades.

Earlier in the week, the European Parliament approved safeguard clauses for European producers, which include monitoring market fluctuations and the possibility of applying unilateral tariffs to prevent producers from the 27 member states from being harmed by imports from Mercosur countries.
