Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde’s Minister of Health, Jorge Figueiredo, announced today that Cape Verde is advancing in the digitalization of its National Health System, with a unique patient code, digital medical history, and electronic prescriptions, centralizing data and improving care.
According to the minister, who was speaking at the inauguration of 24 telemedicine units, each citizen will have their own code that will allow access to their medical history, including laboratory tests, imaging exams, and treatments performed, ensuring greater security and control over their clinical data.
“With this innovation, healthcare professionals will have full access to patient information, regardless of the hospital or health center they attend, reducing repeated requests for tests and optimizing treatment,” explained the minister, highlighting that digitalization will also allow for better planning of public health policies.
The project also includes the implementation of electronic prescriptions, which aims to facilitate the purchase of medicines in pharmacies, avoiding unnecessary travel and ensuring that patients receive all prescribed medications without errors.
Jorge Figueiredo added that the centralization of data will allow for more effective monitoring of surgeries, consultations, and medical procedures, offering precise information for strategic decision-making and strengthening the quality of healthcare services throughout the archipelago.
“We are witnessing a true transformation of the healthcare system, combining technology, efficient management, and patient-centered care, placing Cape Verde on the path of innovation in public health,” he concluded.
