Angola and Cape Verde Strengthen Cultural Cooperation in Various Areas – Ministers

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Angola and Cape Verde are strengthening cooperation in various sectors of culture, including music, visual arts, crafts and the entertainment industry, as the two Ministers of Culture said on Monday in Praia.

Angola’s Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, is in Cape Verde at the invitation of his Cape Verdean counterpart, Augusto Veiga, as part of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the meeting he held this morning with his counterpart and representatives of several cultural institutions, the Angolan leader stressed that the visit aims to open “new spaces” for collaboration and create points of common interest that benefit both countries.

“We are in a phase of creating mutual support for greater knowledge and cooperation. We want to establish a concrete work plan so that these initiatives become reality in the short term,” he explained.

Among the priority areas of collaboration are the music industry, visual arts and the promotion of shared historical heritage, with emphasis on the Tarrafal Concentration Camp, where Angolan, Cape Verdean, Portuguese and Guinean political prisoners were held.

“This is a space that deserves special attention for the joint promotion of our history and cultural diplomacy”, highlighted Filipe Zau.

The Angolan minister also recalled, on the other hand, “the historical and fraternal importance” of relations between Angola and Cape Verde, based on blood ties and long-standing migratory interaction.

In turn, the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, highlighted the importance of advancing concrete agreements between institutions to transform projects into practical actions.

“We are beginning a new phase in our cultural relations due to the fact that we are two sister countries with a long-standing historical and cultural relationship (…) We have already identified several areas of joint work, so that we can put existing agreements into practice and move forward with new agreements in new areas,” he said. Augusto Veiga also highlighted other areas of collaboration, such as cinema, literature and the participation of Angolan delegations in Cape Verdean literary events, such as the Great Book Fair and the Morabeza Literary Festival. The training of cultural professionals and the musical instrument production industry were also discussed, taking advantage of Cape Verdean labor and the availability of wood in Angola.
