Appointed new Board of Directors for Hospital Baptista de Sousa

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government of Cape Verde ended the service commission of the Board of Directors of Hospital Baptista de Sousa, in São Vicente, led by Ana Brito and appointed Helena Rebelo Rodrigues as director.

According to a dispatch from the prime minister’s office, published in the Official Bulletin and quoted by Inforpress, the Government justifies the decision with the need to “create conditions for the proper functioning of that hospital and if there is a need to print new guidelines for the management of the service and to modify the policies to be pursued by them, in order to make them more effective”.

Thus, Helena Rebelo Rodrigues was appointed as director, Nair Chantre Silva Santos Lucas as clinical director, Vera Lúcia Lopes Monteiro, third member and superintendent nurse, Aristides Manuel Ramos, third executive member and administrator, and Paulo Jorge Semedo Miranda Freire, fourth member executive.

Substitutions

These will replace Ana Margarida Brito Além Dias, who was in the role of director, Paulo Almeida, in the role of clinical director, and Laurinda Brito, who was as administrator.

According to the same document, the order enters into force on Tuesday, 30 May.

New appointments in the context of an inquiry into the deaths of newborns

The appointment of the new Board of Directors comes after the allegations related to the death of seven babies in the Neonatology service of the Hospital at the beginning of this month of May.

Following the complaint, the Ministry of Health announced the appointment of a team of specialists in the areas of gynecology-obstetrics, neonatology and nursing, composed of professionals from the Hospital Agostinho Neto, in the city of Praia, and the National Directorate of Health, to carry out an investigation and which is due to present a report by the end of this month.

In February, the director of the HBS Neonatology Service, Cátia Costa, also confirmed the death of five other newborn babies in January, clarifying that the causes were prematurity and congenital malformations.

The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, also asked, through a publication on his facebook, for an “independent audit” to investigate the causes of the deaths of the seven babies at the Baptista de Sousa Hospital, in Mindelo, to allow the appropriate measures to be taken. .
