Africa-Press – Cape verde. The four athletes from Emicela Team Cabo Verde who will represent the country in the international Trail Trangrancanaria race, to be held from the 19th to the 23rd of this month, left today for the Canary Islands.
Walter Araújo and Milly Brito, winner of the 13th edition of the Grande Trail Serra d ́Arga’2024 50-kilometre race in Portugal (both athletes are from São Nicolau), will compete in the marathon, 47 km, while Nelson Correia (Ilha do Fogo) and Cavikson Fortes, from Santo Antão, will be representing the country in the half marathon, 21 km.
The team travelled to the Canary Islands this morning and, according to the national federation of the sport, will have to improve their physical condition there for almost a week before the official race.
This race is part of the World Trail Majors circuit and will bring together a multitude of runners to discover the natural attractions of the Canary Islands, while also positioning it as an ideal place for adventure tourism and sports.
Established in October 2003, the Transgrancanaria takes place in the last week of February and offers six categories to suit the needs of all runners.
In the Transgrancanaria, participants must cross the island on foot, with the help of the organisation, which has several refreshment points with food and drinks suitable for this type of race, “as well as an excellent security team that monitors every metre of the race”.
The organisation expects to welcome around 3,500 athletes representing around 70 nationalities.
