Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the National Assembly, Austelino Correia, highlighted this Friday that Cape Verdean youth played a “fundamental role” in the construction of Cape Verde’s political and constitutional history.
Austelino Correia, who was speaking to the press moments before giving a master class to young people participating in the Cape Verdean Youth Jubilee Week 2024, said that the idea is to convey the message of active, responsible and conscious participation in the entire development process of the country.
“ We are going to take a journey to the origins, roots, to the past as suggested by Pope Francis and also as celebrated by the cardinal and make young Cape Verdeans know a little about the political and constitutional history of Cape Verde ”, he said.
The event, according to the president, is an opportunity to share with these young people a little of the country’s political and constitutional history before independence, the proclamation of independence, the political change in 1990, the emergence of the Movement for Democracy, the approval of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic and the centrality of parliament in this Cape Verdean political system.
Austelino Correia, who highlighted that the entire process had the active participation of Cape Verdean youth, stressed that it is very important that this participation continues to be effective and conscious in order to build an increasingly better future for everyone.
On the occasion, he also recalled that diversity is normal and that it is through difference that the country’s burning issues are discussed, always focusing on achieving the common good.
“We will discuss in this environment of common sense, but above all of elevation and decency, since politics is beautiful, wonderful and serves the interest when it is done in an environment of political elevation”, explained the president of the parliament who considered that the youth is the yeast for the country to develop at an acceptable and sustainable pace.
The master class takes place within the scope of the ‘Open Doors Parliament’ project.
