Africa-Press – Cape verde. Mosteiros – one of the three Municipalities on the island of Fogo -, will have two thousand and 71 students in the 2022/2203 Academic Year – from the First to the 12th years of Schooling -, spread over 94 classes, with a ratio of 22 students.

Compared to last year, the Municipality of “Txon di Café” registers “a slight fluctuation”, for just over one hundred students, that is, 1,950, in the past and “forecast” of 2,71 for the current academic year. .

In some levels of education, there is a decrease in the number of students, as in the First and Fourth grades, which went from 173 (last year) to 158 and 261 to 230, respectively.

In the Seventh Year there was a slight decrease: 197 to 191. In the other levels, there are increases in the number of students.

For the academic year 2022/23, Mosteiros will have 124 teachers.

“Almost all of them are already available”, guarantees the school delegate of the Mosteiros, Dinis dos Anjos, noting that “only a vacancy remains to be filled” in the area of ​​Psychology. Most teachers (99%) “have a degree” and are “in the beginning of their careers”.

Students will be distributed among ten schools, in a total of 53 classrooms.

“We are in the Repair and Maintenance Phase of some Rooms and Bathrooms, as well as the repair and replacement of some furniture, namely: tables and chairs”, says Dinis dos Anjos.

As for school transport, Dos Anjos explains that the City Council, parents and/or people with education and FICASE (Cape Verde Foundation for School Social Action) bear the costs for students from the 7th to the 12th grade.

“Transport for Fifth and Sixth year students, on a mobility basis, is fully supported by FICASE, with the service being guaranteed by private operators, in a fruitful and close partnership with the Municipality of Mosteiros”, emphasizes Dinis dos Anjos.

At the didactic-pedagogical level, the Delegation of the Ministry of Education and the schools have management teams (namely: pedagogical coordinators, sub-directors and school heads), which, “in fact, worked, even in the pandemic years and gave positive responses to the demands and orientations that

the context demanded”.

As in the previous Academic Year, work will be done to improve and replace the content not worked on, due to the pandemic.

“The replacement is aimed at leveling student learning and knowledge, at the same time as we are going to work on implementing the reform of Secondary Education, as well as consolidating Basic Education”, explains Dos Anjos.

Regarding the use – in the Year 2021/2022 -, “in a global way”, it was around 81 percent (%).

The “retention” (former “failure”!) was in the order of 16%, with school dropout standing at around three percent.
