Bank of Cape Verde Launches 500 Escudo Commemorative Coin

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Bank of Cape Verde announced this Friday the release of a commemorative 500 escudo coin, alluding to the fiftieth anniversary of its creation, a milestone marking “half a century of institutional commitment to macroeconomic stability”.

According to a statement from the BCV, the issuance of this coin reflects the bank’s growth and aims to guarantee the stability of monetary sovereignty, confidence, and financial inclusion.

“This issuance constitutes a highly symbolic milestone, marking half a century of institutional commitment to macroeconomic stability, confidence in the financial system, and the economic progress of the country,” the document states.

The 500 escudo coin comes in standard and special finishes of the “uncirculated brilliant” and “numismatic proof” types (gold and silver proof), the three editions of the coin, both on the obverse and reverse.

It reflects the bank’s growth and guarantees the stability of monetary sovereignty, confidence, and financial inclusion.

The central bank stated that the obverse features the inscriptions “Banco de Cabo Verde and 50 Years of Growth and Stability” in classic typeface and uppercase letters, harmoniously arranged around the circular crown.

The center of the obverse is occupied by a graphic representation of the different headquarters buildings of the BCV throughout its five decades of existence, portraying its architectural and institutional evolution.

The reverse features a circular crown, which supports the dates 1975 and 2025, separated by three rings borrowed from the Arms of the Republic and strategically positioned, symbols that mark the historical trajectory of the institution.

The reverse also contains a representation of the Pano di Terra, formerly used as a form of payment, which covers the right half of the circular crown.

“The face value of the coin is prominently displayed, accompanied by symbols representing payment methods, such as a wallet with banknotes, bank cards, a computer symbolizing online payment, and the symbol of a Central Bank Digital Currency, which stands out as a sign of the future,” added the BCV.

In the center, it houses the arms of the Republic of Cape Verde, represented in high relief with all the details of the national coat of arms: the shield, the armillary sphere, the olive branches, and the inscription of the Republic of Cape Verde.
