Bestfly accuses AAC of lying and reiterates the existence of a toxic environment

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Bestfly, the majority shareholder of TICV, reacted today in a statement to the announcement of the suspension of the Air Operator Certificate made on Tuesday by the Civil Aviation Agency and says that the regulator is lying.

“It is a lie that the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC) of Cape Verde unilaterally suspended TICV’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for reasons that were made public”, claims TICV, which says it was the company itself to “spontaneously” present the request for suspension of the AOC, on April 20, 2024, “after the decision was taken to suspend the company’s operations”.

“It was only after this request, as a way of benefiting its position in public opinion, that the AAC decided to suspend the TICV AOC”.

In the statement, TICV argues that “there was no legal reason for revoking the authorization granted to the ACMI contract requested by TICV for the regularization of the inter-island connection in Cape Verde”.

TICV reiterates in the same statement that “it considers that there is a toxic environment in the country that severely harms the proper functioning of inter-island air operations”.

“Since the beginning of TICV’s operation, false news was planted that misled public opinion and compromised the relationship between the company and its customers, when it has always been guided by the principles of transparency and trust. It is not up to TICV to assess the origin and purposes of these unfounded news, but the media environment that provided them appears to be an agent of toxicity and a constraint to the development of domestic air operations”, concludes the company.

It should be remembered that last Tuesday the AAC announced the suspension of Bestfly for repeated non-compliance and clarified the case of the rented aircraft.

The Civil Aviation Agency (AAC) suspended the Air Operator Certificate (COA) and the Air Exploration License (LEA) of the operator TICV (of which Bestfly is the majority shareholder), justifying the decision by repeated non-compliance with regulatory requirements. The authority also clarified the process involving the aircraft mobilized to regularize the connection between islands, criticized by Bestfly which on that day announced its withdrawal from the Cape Verdean air market .
