Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Bio-Tur Project today delivered equipment to the members of the Joint Inspection Nucleus on the island of Maio. The objective, included in a set of local capacity building activities, aims to intensify the inspection of the coastal and marine zone on that island.
Represented by its Local Coordinator at the Protected Areas Unit (UGAP), Teresa Tavares and by the Tourism Technicians, Ronnie Lima and Community Development (TdC), Mònica T. Lopes, the Bio-Tur project today delivered vests and hats to the members of the Joint Inspection Nucleus of the island of Maio.
According to the project, this action is part of a set of local community intervention activities that aim to intensify the inspection of the coastal and marine zone on that island, in partnership with the IMP, SDTIBM, FMB, Municipality of Maio, and the National Police.
It should also be noted that, last week, from the 21st to the 25th of August, practical training in Monitoring Marine Protected Areas took place (with a workload of 40 hours), as part of a partnership between the Bio-Tur project and the Fundação Maio Biodiversidade (FMB), which included a total of 20 trainees from the islands of Santiago, Fogo, Brava, Boavista and S.Vicente.
It is recalled that Bio-Tur intervenes in the areas of tourism, fisheries and biodiversity, aiming at the integration of the different sectors in a systemic way, in order to ensure that the results in terms of biodiversity conservation are well reflected in planning decisions and tourism investment, including the management of marine resources with the participation of the local community.
