Brava: Leaders believe the island is going through a crisis in terms of sport

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Football club managers regret the fact that the 2024/25 sports season will not be held in Brava and believe that the island is going through a sports crisis.

Speaking to Inforpress, the coach of the Morabeza team, Ney Loko, stressed that this situation is “quite worrying”, highlighting that the team has been representing Brava with “quite positivity”, but admitted that in some national games they fell short of expectations.

“I hope that the competition will take place next season, considering that the municipality currently does not play handball, basketball or volleyball, and this time football, and this is very serious for sports in Brava”, he stressed.

According to the manager, the team from this municipality has been respected at a national level and the players have been standing out, so the fact that the competition will not be held is quite complicated for the young people.

“The island currently doesn’t have much to do with young people and without games at the weekend people will certainly miss this activity at the Aquiles d’Oliveira stadium, and without anything to do with it young people may find another negative way to spend their time”, he stressed.

“I think we have to rethink and organise, because in my opinion the disorganisation is in the clubs, taking into account that without leaders the clubs will not be able to function, even with the support of the association, federation and local authority, since without goodwill and agreement between everyone nothing will be possible”, he stressed.

In turn, the coordinator of the football training school in Brava, Alfredo Moreira, who also shares the same opinion, admitted that this year there are no conditions for holding the championship, however he assured that great efforts were made to ensure that this was not the outcome.

“As a football player trainer, I am very sad because Brava could not be left out of this celebration of football, but I promise that the school will continue to do its work with the boys,” he assured.
