Cape Verde Bar Association Sworn in for 2025/2028 Term

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The new governing bodies of the Cape Verdean Bar Association (OACV) took office this Wednesday, with the re-elected president reaffirming his commitment to valuing the profession and strengthening institutional dialogue for a more efficient justice system.

In statements to Inforpress, during the inauguration ceremony, Júlio Martins Júnior stated that for the new term, following his election in November, they will continue to work on valuing lawyers and also strongly emphasize strengthening institutional dialogue between the various justice operators.

“Because from our point of view, the Constitution does not establish walls between these operators, but rather obliges us to build bridges to improve the efficiency of our justice system,” he argued.

Among the priorities presented, Júlio Martins Júnior revealed that the OACV intends to continue the project of revising its statutes, in order to contribute, together with the Ministry of Justice and the legislative branch, to the approval of a bill aimed at improving the efficiency of the justice system.

This, he explained, takes into account citizens’ complaints about the slowness of the justice system.

“And also, we will work with the National Directorate of Registries and Notaries to implement a bill already presented by the Bar Association, which aims to make the practice of notarial acts more flexible, with some acts being carried out by lawyers, thus relieving some of the overload that currently exists in the services,” he said.

On that occasion, the president pointed to internal reorganization as one of the challenges of the previous term, assuring, however, that they managed to reorganize the institution according to the vision and aims of the Bar Association, both in terms of internal organization, the organization of internships, and in terms of ethics and professional conduct.

“We developed several awareness campaigns for lawyers, training, so that everyone can be aware of the challenges of our profession,” he showed.

The new leadership of the OACV (Order of Architects of Cape Verde) is composed of 29 members, including Júlio Martins Júnior as president and head of the Superior Council and the National Council, Elsa Tavares as president of the General Assembly, and Diamantino Soares at the head of the Council of Ideology and Discipline.
