Africa-Press – Cape verde. Chess player Luís Rocha will represent the sporting region of Santiago Sul in the national phase of the Cape Verde Chess Cup as the winner of the regional tournament held in Cidade da Praia.

In the final, Luís Rocha, 26, faced the experienced Luís Barros, a federated athlete with national and international experience, in an exciting dispute in which he demonstrated “skill and mental speed to win the match and guarantee the title of regional champion of Santiago Sul and consequent representation in the Cape Verde Cup”.

To reach the final, Luís Rocha, also known as Dudu, left behind Aniceto Fonseca, José Carlos Vaz and Sebastião Barbosa.

The organization of the regional tournament praises the “high level” of the opponents who competed in this competition that ended on April 30, involving eight athletes, including federated players from the region with FIDE ELO rating, such as David Anes, Gil Teixeira and José Carlos Vaz.

Praia City Council employee, Rocha started playing chess at the age of 20, started by former member of the Praia Chess Association (AXP) Adriano Moura in the neighborhood of Achadinha.

This is his second participation in the regional and he already has in his curriculum the participation in the regional championship of Praia in 2021, when he won the second position.
