Africa-Press – Cape verde. Members of the Armed Forces of Cape Verde participated, for the first time, in training within the scope of the Third Special Forces Group of the United States of America (USA) Army. This training, whose closing ceremony took place on Friday, the 9th, in Praia, had been taking place since the 25th of July.

According to a press release from the US Embassy in Cape Verde, based in Praia, the first joint exchange training between the US Army Special Forces and the Cape Verde Special Operations Unit contributed to “strengthen interoperability and facilitated the sharing of advanced military techniques to enhance the proficiency and professionalism of both partner forces”.

“The JCET program is primarily intended to provide partner nation special operations units with specific training to promote security and stability in Africa,” the press release reads, adding that “JCETs improve U.S. relations with partner nations, developing and maintaining critical military links and improving joint and allied readiness and interoperability.”

US wants to deepen cooperation on security matters

Present at the closing ceremony, the US Ambassador to Cape Verde, Jeff Daigle, expressed his country’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Cape Verde on security matters.

“This first joint exchange training between Cape Verde and the United States is yet another outstanding example of our common commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in security matters,” said Jeff Daigle.

This diplomat also assured that “US special operations forces will continue to build on the relationship established with the goal of being a long-term partnership for future collaboration”.

The American ambassador in Cape Verde also highlighted the particular importance of the exchange between the US and Cape Verde special forces, stating that “it will allow our military to associate more effectively with the security issues of Atlantic Africa”.

“It demonstrates our common determination to work collaboratively to address regional challenges and threats” – concluded Ambassador Jeff Daigle.
