Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean boxer José Carlos Moreno, English champion of the “Boxing Elite Middleweight Boxing (BXGP)”, is in the country to fulfill a promise made to the children of the Casa Lata neighborhood, bringing the belt he won in England.

The athlete, who resides in England, explained to Inforpress that his visit to Cape Verde came after winning the English “Boxing Elite Middleweight Boxing (BXGP)” title, a triumph that allowed him to fulfill his previous commitment to the community. Therefore, he is taking advantage of this return to “launch projects that encourage young people and children”.

“I had promised the children that if I won the championship, I would bring the belt to show them that they too can ‘achieve great things’,” he stated, recalling the moment he presented the trophy at Casa Lata to inspire the younger ones.

His stay in the country also includes initiatives aimed at developing youth boxing.

Among the activities, he highlighted the “Cinema Boxe” project, scheduled for this Saturday, the 13th, which consists of an open-air screening of videos of international training sessions and competitions.

The objective, he emphasized, is to motivate the children, show them the reality of boxing in the world, and reinforce the idea that, with effort and focus, they too can compete outside of Cape Verde.

Regarding his return to the country, the boxer described the moment as one of “renewed motivation and strength.”

The climate, the proximity to family, and traditional foods appear, according to him, as elements that strengthen his performance.

The athlete’s career spans over two decades and includes significant results in England and other countries.

In 2013 He was ranked among the top eight English boxers, has already won the London championship title, and over the years has successfully competed in places like Greece, Sweden, and America.

José Carlos Moreno, who this year had five fights resulting in four wins and only one loss, highlighted the performance of Cape Verdean boxers, recalling that his only defeat was against the national champion.

He believes that Cape Verdean nationality, now official, opens the way for future participation in national competitions and, possibly, for the integration of the national team in international competitions.

This possibility is on the table for next year, according to the boxer.

The message left to young people focuses on the value of boxing as an instrument of discipline, physical health, and mental balance.

He reiterated that the sport demands commitment and genuine passion, therefore, he reminded them, there are various ways to get involved in the sport, whether as coaches, supporters, or sponsors.

José Carlos Moreno also emphasized the importance of companies and institutions contributing to the growth of national boxing and to the creation of… of opportunities aimed at new generations.
