Chã Das Caldeiras Government Denies Unpaid Security Claims

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Directorate of Industry, Commerce and Energy (DNICE) clarified, this Wednesday, that it had no responsibility for the management of the Chã das Caldeiras Photovoltaic Park until July 2024, reacting to complaints from a guard who claims to have worked for four years without pay.

According to a note, this position comes from a report published by media outlets, in which the citizen claims to have performed functions at the location, without any formal link or payment.

“Until July 2024, when it began to have direct involvement in the process, DNICE had no involvement in the management of the project, nor was it informed of any type of contractual relationship with the citizen in question,” the institution clarifies.

According to DNICE, the project in question was designed and implemented by a local organization, with funding from the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). At the time, the Board’s intervention was limited to issuing a letter of comfort for the purpose of requesting a subsidy.

Currently, the Board says it is in dialogue with the worker, evaluating a possible solution within the scope of the management model that will be adopted for the operational phase of the infrastructure.
