CMP Files Complaints Over Illegal Tree Pruning Felling

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Praia City Hall (CMP) reported this Monday, the 4th, that it has filed complaints with the appropriate authorities regarding incidents of illegal tree pruning and felling in several neighborhoods, acts that, according to the city, constitute an environmental crime.

In a statement, the city hall expressed its astonishment at these actions, the perpetrators of which and their motives are unknown.

The CMP notes that in recent days, the city hall has received several complaints from residents concerned about the uncontrolled felling of trees and the accumulation of branches, both on public roads and in trash cans.

Accordingly, city hall technicians and Municipal Police officers went to the indicated locations, where they confirmed the presence of large amounts of plant debris, obstructing streets and hindering access to containers.

In this regard, the CMP states that the Cape Verde Forestry Law stipulates that any intervention in trees in urban areas requires prior authorization from the city hall or the Forestry Services Directorate. The Municipal Code of Conduct also prohibits citizens from carrying out pruning or cutting without proper authorization.

Given the situation and the legal noncompliance, the Praia City Council filed a formal complaint so that the matter could be investigated by the appropriate authorities.
