Ministry of Education Releases High School Student Profile

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The document defines competencies that students must achieve by the end of compulsory schooling and serves as a basis for reorienting teacher training.

According to today’s Official Bulletin, the 4th, the document came into effect at the beginning of the month and aims to respond to the challenges of today’s society, marked by rapid transformations, demanding citizens capable of lifelong learning and adapting to constantly changing contexts.

“The Profile of Students Leaving High School constitutes a common framework for all schools, encompassing different pathways and paths, and ensures the coherence of the educational system,” the order states.

This instrument should guide both curriculum definition and the planning, implementation, and assessment of learning.

According to the same source, the document incorporates guiding principles, a vision of the student to be promoted, values, attitudes, and skill areas to be developed throughout the school career.

Among the competencies identified are cognitive and metacognitive abilities such as critical thinking, creativity, and self-regulation; social and emotional skills such as empathy and collaboration; as well as technological, procedural, and psychomotor skills.

“There are societal and scientific changes that require students to have the capacity for adaptation, creativity, and innovation,” explains the government.

The development of this profile is the result of a broad participatory process involving schools, teachers, students, associations, unions, researchers, and higher education institutions.

The new framework also requires strengthening teacher training, which should focus on pedagogical practices that promote the integral development of students, namely autonomy, responsibility, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Teacher training will thus be directly aligned with the objectives established in this profile.

In the Official Bulletin, the government also guarantees that this educational instrument is aligned with international guidelines, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the OECD frameworks for 21st-century skills.
