João Santos, criminalist: The numbers are “absolutely hideous”

In view of the data exposed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with emphasis on more than 400 homicide cases registered between October 2021 and September 2022, criminalist João Santos considers that, given this number, one gets the impression that the country is ” in war”.

“It’s an absolutely hideous number”, says this jurist, who considers that, in addition to the violent crimes that have been happening in Cape Verde, there is the so-called small and medium crime that compromises social relations in the country.

According to this specialist, in principle, violent crimes are easier to solve, as they end up mobilizing more means and “although the complexities are faster and easier to solve, paradoxically”.

This specialist considers, on the other hand, that, in addition to the high number of homicide crimes, it is necessary to highlight the small and medium crime that creates the so-called subjective insecurity and “this feeling of insecurity ends up limiting the freedom of people who see themselves prevented from carrying out their activities safely and from maintaining a minimal social relationship”.

MP has not yet made the report 2021/2022 available

In order to have access to the annual report on the state of justice of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, A NAÇÃO had to rely on the “good offices” of a well-positioned source, since the Attorney General’s Office, in addition to not providing us with the document, did not provide it. published it “timely” on its website, as promised. However, we apologize for the fact that, in the previous edition, we said that the report for 2020/2021 was not on the Public Ministry’s website. We were misled because the aforementioned report did not respect the chronological order of publication, as the photo attests.
