Directas on MpD: Candidates looking for votes

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The candidacies for leadership of the Movement for Democracy (MpD) in the internal elections, which will take place within a month (April 17), have already been formalized and the two candidates, Ulisses Correia e Silva and Orlando Dias, are already on the road in campaign to captivate the votes of the ruling party’s militants. Meanwhile, the PAICV denounces the use of public resources in this campaign.

Orlando Dias, who was the first to formalize his candidacy with the MpD’s Support Office for the Electoral Process (GAPE), asked for transparent, democratic elections, with fairness and debate of ideas and considered that the party needs a new leadership for a new political cycle.

Dias also said that the MpD has to return to being a “truly democratic party, in accordance with its origin, essence and objectives that are based on democracy, freedom, development, social justice and intransigent defense of the dignity of the human person, the main beneficiary of the entire development effort.

He considers, on the other hand, that by “rescuing” the MpD, “the militants, friends and supporters must fight against the exercise of power based on decision-making by some of the main leaders, behind closed doors and behind the backs of most party members ”.

“The MpD must not be allowed to be a class or apparatus party”, emphasized Orlando Dias, underlining the urgency of “rescuing” the close connection between the national bodies, the intermediate structures and the bases, through meetings and systematic visits , periodic and frequent, by the members of the National Political Commission and the National Directorate, to ensure that they have a correct assessment of the situation and problems affecting the country”.

In other words, “giving the party back to the militants”, so that the MpD bases can be reorganized “so that they can function properly and organize regular debates in their respective constituencies”.

“To keep the MpD at the forefront of the country”

The candidacy of Ulisses Correia e Silva was formalized with the MpD’s GAPE, through its representative, Fernando Elísio Freire, who stated that the current leader of the party is running again “to keep the MpD in the leadership of the country” and, therefore, considers that “there are every reason in the world” to continue entrusting the party to Ulisses Correia e Silva, the current Prime Minister.

“It is for the party and for the country that Ulisses Correia e Silva continues to show his face, foreseeing a promising future for Cape Verde”, he added, stressing that UCS wants to continue making the MpD the leading party of political parties in Cape Verde and connected with Cape Verde and with the world.

“The MpD is ready and we will continue, under the leadership of Ulisses Correia e Silva, to lead Cape Verde to become an increasingly successful country and achieve our dream, which is to make our country a developed country”, he stressed, pointing out that this leadership mainly covers areas such as energy and climate transition, the green and blue economy, and, above all, Cape Verde’s connection with the world through technologies.

Among the reforms proposed at the party level, the UCS representative pointed to the resumption of the issue of regional political coordination, regional political commissions, the strengthening of municipal political coordination and to ensure that there is greater integration between the various MpD systems with mechanisms communication innovators.
