Africa-Press – Cape verde. Emídio Alves, an emigrant from Ribeira da Cruz, now living in the United States, announced today his intention to build a retirement home in that rural area of Porto Novo.
According to Inforpress, Emídio Alves met with the mayor of Porto Novo, Elisa Pinheiro, with whom he shared his “dream of building a retirement home” in Ribeira da Cruz “to welcome the elderly of this locality with dignity and care.”
The Porto Novo municipality considered this initiative “an inspiring example of solidarity and the connection of the diaspora” to the development of the municipality.
The mayor praised the importance of the project, guaranteeing the municipality’s partnership in its implementation.
Porto Novo has a senior citizen support center in the city and in Ribeira das Patas, and residents have been requesting the creation of more day centers in the municipality, specifically in Ribeira da Cruz and Tarrafal de Monte Trigo.
