Africa-Press – Cape verde. A total of 20 firefighters completed this Thursday, 23rd, in Ribeira Brava, training in firefighting, search and rescue and extrication. On the occasion, a firefighting truck was delivered in the municipality of Tarrafal.
The training, with a workload of 72 hours, was given by a team from the “Operation Floririan” of Manchester Firefighters, England, within the scope of an existing protocol between this corporation and the municipality of Tarrafal.
Joanne Musgrave, from the “Operation Floirian” team of Manchester Firefighters, England, said that this is the second time they have been to São Nicolau and that they were “very satisfied” with the level of local firefighters.
“We expanded the topics that were already taught in 2019, consequently introducing some more training, such as, for example, reinforcing practices of extrication, search and rescue and firefighting”, he stressed.
“More value” – local firefighters
Jeilson Cruz, on behalf of the firefighters, said it was an added value, which allowed them to acquire “more knowledge and be better able to serve the population”.
Speaking to Inforpress, the mayor of Tarrafal, José Freitas, said that the training will allow firefighters in the municipality and on the island to be better prepared to respond to any emergency cases.
Small barracks – autarchy
According to the mayor, the municipality is preparing a fire brigade for the municipality, and is currently working to create a “small barracks” with all the necessary means.
The “Operation Floririan” team of Manchester Firefighters, England, also formally delivered a fire-fighting truck to the municipality of Tarrafal.
