Africa-Press – Cape verde. In the near future, the island of Fogo will be able to count on a cell of the Judiciary Police (PJ) to cover the Fogo/Brava region, declared the Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, responding to the challenge launched by the mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva. .
Joana Rosa said that the installation of a PJ cell on the island will depend on human and financial resources.
As he said, this issue has been discussed with the management of the scientific police, but at the moment “the conditions are not met”, namely the minimum number of inspectors, three, for its installation.

The minister of Justice highlighted that in reception infrastructures, the chamber was available to create the conditions, namely the provision of a space for this purpose, underlining that the Ministry is considering this hypothesis for the coming times.
PJ cell in Santa Cruz and Porto Novo
“Fogo has had some PJ coverage in the most discreet way possible and is close to the City of Praia, but the Ministry of Justice is concerned for the coming years to install a PJ cell here in Fogo, but also in Porto Novo (Santo Antão) and in Santa Cruz (Santiago), but this will depend on resources, not only human but also financial and we will be depending on what the 2023 budget will be”, he summarized.
Non-significant criminal incidence
Joana Rosa says that there is political will on the part of the Government to cover the island, despite the fact that the criminal incidence is not significant, but that it is necessary to work on prevention and contribute to avoiding situations of abnormality in crime on the island.
The official was also satisfied with the mayor’s willingness and openness to work with the Government, through the Ministry of Justice, on the issue of social reintegration of inmates with joint work on training projects and in the health of inmates, namely to specialist consultations, using the municipality’s mobile clinic, to provide medical assistance to the Regional Prison of Fogo.
It should be noted that these statements were made within the scope of the visit of the Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa to Fogo Island to sign a protocol with the Municipality of São Filipe.
