Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Municipality of São Filipe is celebrating Republic Week with a series of cultural, sports and educational activities between the 13th and 20th of January.
The celebration of Republic Week aims to promote reflection on the history and values of the Republic of Cape Verde, while also engaging the local community in various initiatives.
An open conversation on “The importance of Republic Week” is scheduled for today at the Municipal Library.
The program began on Monday the 13th with a handball tournament, which will continue until the 17th at the multipurpose hall in the Beltches neighborhood, and a tournament and under-12 football tournament at the Ponta Verde (north) and Mário Djúdju (city) fields to offer children and young people the opportunity to compete and have fun in a healthy environment.
The book “Instauração do Salazarismo em Cabo Verde – Repressão como meio de silenciar os oponentes” (Instauration of Salazarism in Cabo Verde – Repression as a means of silencing opponents), written by Professor Manuel António de Pina Souto Amado, who teaches Cape Verdean History/Culture at Escola Secundária Dr. Teixeira de Sousa, is scheduled to be launched as part of the week’s celebrations.
The book was scheduled to be launched at the end of October last year, but due to various constraints it will only be launched now in the city of São Filipe, after the author gave his presentation in the city of Cova Figueira, municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo, in November 2024.
The launch will be followed by a reflection and dialogue on the historical period and its repercussions.
In partnership with schools, churches and the Projecto Vitó association, a walk will be held on January 20th along the Cruz dos Passos route to the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros, followed by a clean-up campaign.
This objective is to promote awareness about environmental preservation and community engagement in building a cleaner and healthier environment.
Musical entertainment, capoeira and karate performances, and jumping in the children’s paradise, located on the Alameda de Cruz dos Passos, providing a moment of leisure and entertainment for the little ones.
The program also includes the delivery of a section of road in the community of Cutelo Capado, located in the upper part of the southern part of the municipality of São Filipe.
