Africa-Press – Cape verde. n the document sent to Inforpress, the Government informs that within the scope of its housing program it has invested in promoting the creation of “ decent ” housing and urban spaces, in compliance with the norms and principles that govern territorial planning, enabling each citizen to access to own housing and/or rental housing, according to economic capacity.

“ In view of the growing demographic pressure and the need for strategic public and private investments that the municipalities of Cape Verde have been facing, the Government decided to alienate a number of State lands to meet these needs, a measure that has proven to be crucial for the building investments, boosting the civil construction sector and creating new centralities in municipalities ”, the document reads.

The same source adds that in this context and in compliance with article 103 of decree-law 2/97, of 21 January, which approves the legal regime for assets in the private domain of the State, the process of transferring of State land, subject to transfer, in favor of the municipality of São Miguel.

It explains that the transfer of land to the municipality of São Miguel had the purpose of urban expansion, which was carried out through the operation of subdivision and urbanization works subject to municipal licensing and respective urban planning conditions.

“ It should be noted that to date, land has been transferred to the municipal councils of Santa Cruz and São Salvador do Mundo, for urban expansion and regularization of occupants’ property titles ”, adds the same source.

The Government also informs that the municipalities of Boa Vista, São Domingos, Porto Novo, São Filipe, Sal and Santa Catarina de Santiago are in the process of transferring land from the State for urban expansion and regularization of title.

Last Sunday, the 3rd, the Regional Political Commission (CPR) of the PAICV in Santiago Norte accused the president of the São Miguel City Council, Herménio Fernandes, of wanting to “ improperly appropriate ” land, especially from poor families.

The PAICV considered this “misappropriation” and “illegal sale” of private land by the Mayor of São Paulo to be “ very serious ”, in partnership with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia.
