Group of young people classifies International Youth Day as an important date that symbolizes peace and unity

Africa-Press – Cape verde. A group of young people from the city of Praia today classified International Youth Day as an important date, which symbolizes peace and unity, however they call for the opening of more jobs and peace in the world.

Speaking to Inforpress, as part of the celebrations of International Youth Day, celebrated today, university student Aline Carvalho praised the importance of the date, its meaning and what still needs to be done so that young people become the “transformers of tomorrow”.

For Aline Carvalho, young people need more opportunities, but she also mentioned that in some areas there are opportunities that “not everyone is taking advantage of”.

“I think they need more training to learn how to make the best use of the doors that are being opened,” he mentioned.

She also criticized the attitudes of many young people who, according to her, end up choosing the wrong paths and engaging in deviant behavior.

“We have been on an extremely difficult journey, sometimes with many difficulties, which makes young people unmotivated, others end up emigrating due to the lack of opportunities and others turn to crime”, lamented the young woman.

Eunice Moreira, for her part, said that many young people dream of having a job and achieving financial stability, considering that what is missing is joint work with entities.

“The aim is to find ways to support young people and make them more motivated and prevent them from following other paths,” he stressed.

However, interviewee João Wahnon, who says he is currently unemployed, pointed out that young people today are not thinking about the future, but rather, they think about living today instead of tomorrow.

“I think it’s a lack of focus and the cause of all this is social media,” revealed the young man, who was concerned about this reality.

“Most young people spend a lot of time on their mobile phones using the internet instead of worrying about other things. The internet is important, yes, but it should be used in a useful way. Young people today wake up with their mobile phones in their hands and do something with it and when they realize it, the day is already over without them having done anything,” he said.

International Youth Day is celebrated annually on August 12, with the aim of recognizing the role of young people in society.

This year the theme is “From clicks to progress: digital paths for youth towards sustainable development”.
