Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Brava City Hall announced on Tuesday, the 24th, the start of works to protect against landslides and the creation of a climate shelter at the Furna dock, budgeted at over R$ 55,000.

The intervention is considered strategic to reinforce the safety and resilience of the island in the face of the impacts of climate change.

The undertaking focuses on one of the most vulnerable areas of the island, specifically the Furna River, where torrent correction infrastructure will be built to curb erosion and reduce the risk of landslides, ensuring slope stabilization and greater protection for residents, workers, and port users.

In addition to the containment and stabilization works, the project includes the installation of a climate shelter at the Furna port’s maritime station, a structure designed to offer better protection conditions for passengers and residents in situations of extreme heat, heavy rain, or strong winds.

The intervention also includes community awareness actions, aiming to reinforce the preparedness of the local population in the face of adverse weather events.

Estimated at over 55 million escudos, the investment is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in partnership with the Brava Municipal Council, within the framework of the Climate Action for Local Action Program, financed by Luxembourg Cooperation.

The municipality thus reaffirms its commitment to promoting a safer, more prepared and resilient Brava, placing climate adaptation at the center of local development priorities.
