Africa-Press – Cape verde. Athletes Ivan Fortes, in the senior men’s category, and Edna Lima, in the senior women’s category, won the São Vicente Trail stage today.

Ivan Fortes, from the Jal Domus Nostra Athletics School in Santo Antão, completed the 27-kilometer Long Trail course and crossed the finish line at Laginha beach in two hours, 10 minutes, and 14 seconds.

Edna Lima, a native of Santo Antão and resident of Santiago, but who was competing individually, completed the same route in three hours, 14 minutes and 12 seconds.

Speaking to the press, Ivan Fortes expressed his happiness at winning this second stage of the Cabo Verde Trail circuit, after also winning on the island of Boa Vista.

“I’m happy to have won the second Long Trail race. The only thing that made it difficult was the weather, as it was quite hot, but the course was easy and I achieved my goal,” explained the athlete, who said he encountered more difficulties on the Salamansa climb back to the city because it’s steep.

According to Ivan Fortes, his goal is to continue working to reach the podium in the remaining stages and conquer the circuit at a national level.

In turn, Edna Lima, who won last year’s race and took second place in the first stage of this year’s circuit, held in Boa Vista, said that the Laginha-Baía das Gatas-Laginha route “was a bit tough”.

“Although there are few mountains, there are many boulders that make it difficult for athletes. The race debut on São Vicente Island was very good for me,” said the athlete, who also noted that the heat caused difficulties.

In the Short Trail, which is 13 kilometers long, the winners were Willian Santos who crossed the finish line in one hour and Liliana Medina who did one hour and twenty minutes, both are athletes from the Jal Domus Nostra school.

In the Young Trail, athletes Hendson Andrade won with just over 30 minutes and Luana Santos who did around 44 minutes. In the Mini Trail competition, the winner was Irineu Medina.
