Africa-Press – Cape verde. Liver Mendes Gomes, 32, has submitted his candidacy for the leadership of Youth for Democracy (JpD), a youth organization within the Movement for Democracy (MpD). The election will take place during the JpD General Assembly, scheduled for this Sunday, July 27th.
The candidate, who has held the position of Secretary-General of JpD since 2022, is running under the slogan “Lead Change, Inspire Generations” and aims to usher in a new phase of renewal and strengthening of the youth movement, focusing on strengthening ties between Cape Verdean youth and national politics.
Liver Gomes holds a degree in Educational Sciences from the University of Cape Verde, with further studies at the University of La Laguna, Spain, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Santiago. His academic background includes stints at the Bela Cruz Elementary School and the Alfredo da Cruz Silva Secondary School.
A member of the MpD since 2013 and a member of the JpD since 2017, he ran for municipal deputy in 2016 and for Deputy of the Nation in 2021 for the Santiago Norte constituency. In the 2024 municipal elections, he was one of the youngest candidates in the country.
Outside of political parties, he served as president of the Uni-CV Student Association (2016–2018) and as co-founder and president of the League of University Associations of Santiago (LAUS). In 2025, he was recognized by the Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation as one of the most influential young people in Africa.
