Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, will be present at the funeral of the former head of state of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos, which should take place on the 28th, the date of his birth.
As we have already seen, the remains of the former Angolan president arrived in Luanda, Angola, last Saturday, after a long legal battle between the family of the deceased.
The presence of the Cape Verdean PR, in the obsequies of the former head of state of Angola, was confirmed by him to Inforpress.
José Maria Neves highlights that José Eduardo dos Santos was present in the “decisive moments” of the archipelago, in addition to being a “great friend” of Cape Verdeans in Angola.
“Here, respect and friendship for Angola and José Eduardo dos Santos are nurtured, but it is also necessary to pay tribute to the former Angolan President and remember the great work he developed in Angola”, said the Cape Verdean PR to the press, the day he went to the Angolan diplomatic representation to sign the book of condolences.
It is recalled that the body of José Eduardo dos Santos was handed over, by decision of a Spanish court, to the widow Ana Paula dos Santos, mother of three of the former president’s eight children, against the will of the other five children, including businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, who were not notified of the transfer.
Isabel dos Santos, grappling with justice in Angola and other countries due to corruption allegations, and Tchizé, a former MPLA deputy, her father’s party, in power since 1975, have lived abroad for several years and say they are victims of persecution by the Angolan authorities.
