Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Directorate for Sea Policy recognized this Sunday that there have been failures in inter island maritime transport services, claiming financial and operational reasons, but guaranteed the implementation of a new operational model for the “next days”.
The statement was made following the latest events related to interisland connections and it has been the subject of criticism from passengers. The National Directorate for Sea Policy reported that, to date, an amount of 427,827,628 CVE has been settled, referring to a debt of December 2022, worth 581,275,085 CVE and assured that it has been making “every effort” to normalize the situation.
As he advanced, he was aware that the public subsidy for the imposition of the maritime transport service reached high values, much higher than expected, in the first three years of operation.
However, he stated that the reasons are related to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic due to the consequent closing of borders, limitations imposed on passenger transport and stagnation of the economy, followed by the galloping increase in fuel prices. Thus conditioning the capacity of the payment from the State, on the one hand, and the treasury of Cabo Verde Interilhas (CVI) on the other.
