Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Emergency Fund (FNE) and the Municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo signed a financial aid agreement this Wednesday to support the populations affected by the fire that occurred on May 22, 2025.

The agreement was signed by the president of the National Emergency Fund, António Cardoso, and the mayor of Santa Catarina do Fogo, Manuel Teixeira, and amounts to 6,500 contos to support the population of the localities of Tinteira, Mãe Joana, and Estância Roque affected by the fire.

The agreement aims to finance the implementation of financial support measures for farmers and ranchers in the affected areas, with the objective of promoting the recovery of cultivated and grazing areas, the reforestation of slopes, and the resumption of agricultural and livestock activities.

Among the planned actions are also the maintenance of the access road and the clearing of the region, fundamental to improving the fight against possible future fires and reinforcing the conditions for agricultural practice in the affected areas.

The support also includes subsidies for the acquisition of plants intended for reforestation and agriculture, as well as for the purchase of pasture, feed and corn for animal feed.

The funding, approved under Council of Ministers Resolution No. 98/2025, of September 26, amounts to a total of 6,596,250 escudos, a value that will be allocated by the National Emergency Fund within a period of up to 60 days.

The disbursement will be made in two installments of 50 percent (%), each corresponding to the value of 3,298,125 cruzeiros.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo assumes responsibility for the physical and financial execution of the planned measures, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

This financial support aims to mitigate the damage caused by the forest fire, strengthen the resilience of the affected rural communities, and contribute to the environmental and economic recovery of the affected localities in the municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo.
