Africa-Press – Cape verde. The national director of the National Police (PN) released this Wednesday the data on criminal occurrences for 2022, with emphasis on seizures of homemade firearms, with a total of 478 seizures, more 158 than in 2021.

Emanuel Moreno, who was speaking at the opening of the seminar “Preventing and combating gun crime: the legal regime for weapons and ammunition in Cape Verde”, in one of the hotels in Mindelo, which precedes the 17th National Police Command Council (PN), gave also counts the “good capacity” of response of the PN in the clarification of crimes in 2022.

“Of the 23,344 occurrences registered in 2022, 15,082 were clarified, equivalent to 68%”, noted the National Director who, still on seizures of weapons and ammunition, indicated that in relation to conventional firearms, the PN seized 186, 19 more than in 2021, 3,855 cold weapons, 1,013 more than in 2021 and still 8,998 ammunition, 5,934 more compared to 2021.

In 2022, indicated by the same source, crimes against property represented 57.9% of the total occurrences registered in the PN, of which 23.8% refer to thefts and 11.6% to robberies, and, in relation to crimes against people, these accounted for 42.1% of incidents nationwide.
