PAICV deputies warn of unemployment in Planalto Leste

Africa-Press – Cape verde. PAICV deputies, elected by Santo Antão, warned, on Friday, the 15th, of the problem of unemployment in “almost all locations” in Planalto Leste.

As part of a four-day visit to Santo Antão, deputies Albertino Mota and Rosa Rocha were in the areas of Corda, Lagoa, Água das Caldeiras, Espongeiro and Pico da Cruz, where they say they found that “the lack of jobs constitutes a concern ”.

The deputies told Inforpress that in the areas of Corda, Lagoa, Água das Caldeiras, Espongeiro and Pico da Cruz the situation is the same, that is, there is a lack of public employment, with the exception of Pico da Cruz, where there are two work fronts in the recovery of local roads.

In all locations, parliamentarians also heard complaints about the lack of water for domestic consumption, with Pico da Cruz facing the “most critical” situation.

PAICV parliamentarians warned about the departure of young people from Santo Antão to other islands and say they found that “many families” in Planalto Leste are not benefiting from support and social inclusion income and social pension.

“Screaming cases that expose social asymmetries and injustices”, they concluded.

The visit of PAICV elected officials to Santo Antão, which began on Thursday, 14th, and lasts four days, aims to contact the population and find out about the progress of public investments on this island.
