Parliament: Minister of Justice says there is already “environment favourable” for approval of the amendment to the Law on nationality

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Justice said on Thursday that the Government welcomes the proposal to amend the law on nationality presented by the PAICV (opposition party), considering that there is already a favourable environment for the parties to consensualize positions.

The statement was made by Joana Rosa, during her intervention in the debate, in general, on the proposed law to defines the conditions for attribution, acquisition, loss and reacquisition of Cabo Verdean nationality, proposed by the parliamentary bench of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV).

“I think we have a favourable environment for consensual positions at the level of the joint Committee or the first Committee, depending on what could be the concertation between the parliamentary benches and the Government. Also, I will be attentive and open so that we can have a good law, make a very responsible amendment to meet what are the challenges the country has and the needs of Cabo Verdeans living here and abroad”, she pointed out.

According to the Minister, the change in the law on nationality comes from various reasons, such as politics, humanitarian, affinities and historical ties, customs, cultural, but also has to do with the issue of the country’s security.
