Porto Novo hosts workshop on sustainable family farming

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, will host a workshop on sustainable family farming from 14 to 17 October, with the aim of learning about experiences in sustainable agricultural systems.

The announcement was made today by the Association for the Defence of the Heritage of Mértola (Portugal), one of the mentors of this initiative, which also aims to understand the importance of family farming in the global context, as well as the relevance of partnerships and the creation of cooperation mechanisms.

The event, which will be dedicated to farmers and livestock breeders, is part of the project “Capacitate and promote to develop”, which is being implemented in the municipality of Porto Novo, in a partnership between some Portuguese associations.

In a note to which Inforpress had access, the organisation explains that the workshop is aimed at farmers who already carry out agricultural or livestock farming activities or who intend to develop them, as well as technicians and people interested in learning about or developing sustainable agricultural practices.

As part of this project, which also has the Associação Terras do Baixo Guadiana (Portugal) as one of its promoters, some locations in the municipality of Porto Novo have been hosting cooking and agri-food processing workshops, which aim to provide women with knowledge that will allow them to value local products.
