Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean Electoral Census Commission in Portugal (CRE-PT) announced today that voter registration for citizens of that country continues to be carried out at the Consular Section of the Cape Verdean Embassy in Lisbon.
The same source informed that the census takes place from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
According to the CRE-PT, every Cape Verdean citizen who enjoys active electoral capacity under the law must and can register by presenting their identity card, CNI (National Identity Card) or passport, even if they are expired.
If the Cape Verdean citizen does not have the aforementioned identification documents, they can carry out a provisional registration and will have, according to the law, a period not exceeding 30 days to present the identification document, under penalty of their provisional registration being eliminated, according to the same source.
The CRE-PT, led by diplomat Rito Correia, also appeals to all citizens who registered to vote in Cape Verde or any other country, but who now reside in Portugal, to go to the Cape Verdean Embassy in Portugal to update their registration in the electoral roll.
However, the same source informed that applications have already opened for the recruitment of 20 electoral registration agents, which closes on December 12th, aiming to ensure the registration of the largest possible number of Cape Verdean citizens in the diaspora.
The selected agents will be hired for a period of five months, with the mission of supporting the electoral registration campaign among the Cape Verdean community residing in Portugal.
The CRE Portugal and its respective members have, among other responsibilities, the task of encouraging and promoting registration, promoting transfers of registrations in the electoral rolls, providing clarifications about registration, among others.
The president of the CRE is responsible for representing and ensuring the proper functioning of the commission, coordinating and energizing all the work of the registration commission.
The president of the CRE-PT, Rito Correia, and the full members Benvinda Barbosa, Mário Carvalho, Daniel Évora (who moved to the new CRE), and Iolanda da Veiga, and the alternate members Silva de Jesus Correia and Gelson Rodrigues, were sworn in on December 3rd.
