The mayor of Praia (CMP), Francisco Carvalho, accused, last Friday, the Government of invading land belonging to the municipality for the construction of buildings of social interest in the area of São Filipe. The mayor of Praia classified the episode as “very serious” and “extremely unhappy.
During a press conference called to denounce what happened, the mayor of Praia, argued that Imobiliária Fundiária e Habitat (IFH) does not have a title or license to build on the aforementioned land.
As explained by the president of the CMP, the Government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Territorial Planning and Housing, together with the IFH, invaded the land and destroyed part of the excavations that the municipality is doing in the place, ending up obstructing the roads and access roads built in that locality.
“Who can more, can less”
Francisco Carvalho said that the municipality received a note from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Land Planning and Housing, dated 21 February 2023, announcing that the land in question was chosen for the construction of buildings of social interest in the neighborhood of Achada São Filipe ”, where the Government made a point of saying that “those who can more, can less”.
“Even after receiving the note, we responded to the minister, ignoring and completely revealing the expression “who can more, can less” and we express our total openness to make available another land for the realization of Government projects”, said the mayor who assured that Praia City Council already has a structured project for this land.
Project of social interest.
The mayor of Praia guaranteed that the municipality never received any request for the transfer of land by the Government, but rather a statement in which the Ministry of Infrastructure informs the municipality that the land in question was chosen for the construction of this project of social interest.
“We socially condemn all types of clandestine construction, which is one of the main problems of the municipality”, said the mayor, who considered that the Government should set an example on the best way to conduct processes.
As he explained, it is a building located in Achada São Filipe, registered in the head office under number 967 and inscribed in the land registry office in book F-1 (6544) AP.2/30-08-1983 as property of the City Council City of Praia.
