President of CSMP Swears in Seven New Public Prosecutors

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (CSMP), Luís Landim, swore in 7 3rd class public prosecutors this Wednesday, stressing that the duty of magistrates is to contribute responsibly to dignifying the position.

According to the statement, the list of new magistrates includes Floriano Arnaldo Fabrício Jahnel Mandl, Carlos Alberto Lopes de Brito, Eunícia Soraia Dos Santos Alves, Sílvia Elisangela de Pina da Costa Vaz., Donaldo Edgar Rocha Gomes, Edson Varela Monteiro and Hélio Andrade Duarte, who have completed their internship period.

During the inauguration ceremony, the president of the CSMP said that the duty of magistrates is to contribute, in a responsible manner, with their work and behavior, both in public and private life, and to dignify and give prestige to the positions they will occupy.

“Courage is one of the great attributes that must always accompany a public prosecutor. I am sure that our sworn-in members are aware of the commitment they have just made, of what it means to be a public prosecutor, a sometimes thorny magistracy, which involves risks and requires a lot of firmness, determination and courage in decision-making,” he stressed.

The president, also the attorney general, also stated that ethical, deontological and integrity principles are important for a magistrate’s career.

The Attorney General thanked the team that guided the judges during the probationary period for their dedication and availability, assuring them that they will be honored shortly.

The magistrate stressed that “Cape Verdean society demands proficient action in favor of the common good”, and stated that it is fundamental and essential that the magistrates sworn in are aware of the real importance of the powers of the public prosecutor.

Public prosecutor Sílvia Vaz, who represented those sworn in, stated that they were aware of their responsibility and prepared to begin “a professional stage with a spirit of commitment to truth and justice”.

The judge thanked the internship’s supervisory team and the inspectors, emphasizing that they look at the districts that await them with the humility of someone who knows that learning never stops.

“We are going to meet concrete communities, real lives, stories marked by conflicts, hopes and weaknesses. And it is in this encounter that we will continue to build our role, always with independence, responsibility and integrity,” he concluded.
