Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, made a one-hour technical stopover on the island of Sal this afternoon (09/12), during which time he held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva.

The plane carrying the President of Ukraine landed in Sal around 3:00 pm and Zelensnsky was awaited by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, who, on the occasion, reaffirmed Cape Verde’s support for “Ukraine’s just cause”.

In a brief statement to the press, the Ukrainian president thanked the prime minister for the fact that Cape Verde supported his country at the United Nations, after the Russian attack on February 24, 2022.

“ We are very grateful to the voice that supported our sovereignty, against Russian attacks and our territorial integrity” , he said.

“ We have had so many losses and so many Russian attacks, but today we cannot be afraid of that, we have to remain strong. I am happy that we have such strong people, who fight for freedom, for their families, and for their children ”, reinforced the Ukrainian leader.

Zelensky also recalled so many other conflicts in the world that currently influence aid to Ukraine, however he said that his people “ remain strong ” because they are on the “right side and at home ”.

“ It will be very difficult for us without help from the United States and the free world, without military or financial aid and even political support. It will be more difficult for us. It’s very complicated, but as I said, just like what we did on February 24th, two years ago we will remain strong and we will be at home, because it is our home, it is our Ukraine. ”, pointed out the Ukrainian president.

For his part, Ulisses Correia e Silva highlighted that this short stop by the Ukrainian president means a “distinction and another opportunity” for Cape Verde to reaffirm its support for the integrity of Ukraine.

“ A cause for democracy, sovereignty, territorial integrity and their free choice of integration into the European Union, the process of which is ongoing ”, he stated.

“ We also share very strong shared values. We also have a history, a country that was colonized, which then went through a single-party regime, a country that fought for democracy and freedom and that puts these values at the first level, which is why we make this same reading when other countries are affected by these values. and in its sovereignty ”, he reinforced.

At a time when other focuses of attention are emerging and an “eminent” decrease in support for Ukraine to face the war is being felt, the prime minister said he believes that the United States of America “will not fail to intervene, supporting Ukraine ”, since more than a war, it calls into question the “ geopolitical balance ”.

Volodymyr Zelensky left Amílcar Cabral international airport in the presidential Airbus A319, at around 4:00 pm, on his way to Latin America. The Week with Inforpress
