Prime Minister admits to being “dissatisfied” with inter-island maritime transport service

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, was today dissatisfied with the Interilhas maritime transport service, meanwhile guaranteed that the Government “is working” to solve the problem with more vessels.

Speaking to Rádio de Cabo Verde, the PM expressed his dissatisfaction when faced with the constraints of maritime connectivity.

“I am also not satisfied with the level of service that we have in terms of maritime transport, but I guarantee that we are working so that we can overcome this period”, he said.

When compared with 2015, Ulisses Correia e Silva defended that the situation is better and that “there is no doubt about it”.

Hope it was better

However, he added that the expectations that were created in relation to the concession of inter-island maritime transport were that it could be better in terms of service provision, basically the guarantee of regular inter-island connections.

“What is being assembled will guarantee that, later this year, or at the latest, at the beginning of next year, we can have more vessels, at least four more boats”, he said.

Likewise, he said that the objective is to have a permanent Fogo-Brava boat, with “a more adjusted dimension to the market itself” and a Praia-Maio line, also with a boat dedicated to this purpose.

The other two boats, he envisioned, will make other lines, “in order to guarantee that we can have an increase in supply capacity and, also, always have backup so that, in case of any damage, some maintenance of a boat, we don’t have, after , breach of service,” he explained.

Financing

Continuing, Ulisses Correia e Silva pointed out that they are working on a mechanism that can guarantee financing in good conditions, namely under concessional conditions.

“Acquiring boats under favorable financing conditions, namely concessional, the financial costs of the concession will decrease significantly, this presupposes that these financial costs are then determined in terms of compensatory indemnity, this would allow the costs to be download and increase the capacity of the supply”, he concluded.
