Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Professional Qualification for Domestic Workers, Level 2, has now been published in the Official Gazette.
According to the Government, through the ICIEG, the measure aims to guarantee equal opportunities and treatment in all aspects of employment, in alignment with the principles of ILO Convention No. 189 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 5, 8, and 10).
The same source adds that the measure aims to promote the political and institutional framework for this class, contributing to advances in regulation and guaranteeing rights, promoting social protection and formalization, and implementing professional qualification and training initiatives.
“This qualification was the result of established partnerships and the work developed by the ICIEG, within the scope of the project ‘Promoting the Empowerment and Economic Autonomy of Women and Youth,’ funded by AECID,” it states.
According to the government, this qualification aims to recognize that domestic workers constitute a group historically vulnerable to informality, multiple discrimination, and exclusion from public policies.
For the Government, this is another step towards the dignity and appreciation of domestic work, on which a large part of the national economy depends.
