Shipowners Rule Out Installing Vessels at Praia Negra

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Praia Fishing Pier Owners Association (AACPP) warned today that if conditions are not created at Praia Negra, in Praia, fishing boats will not be installed in the area as stipulated by the government.

“It’s a notice that requires shipowners to move their vessels from the pier’s surroundings to Praia Negra, but it’s not a shipyard, but a makeshift space. What we want is for them to demand that the other abandoned boats moored at the pier also be removed from the sea,” explained Samora Barros, speaking to Inforpress.

While welcoming the idea, the same source stated that the government needs to create local conditions so that the shipowners, who spend all day, around 12 hours, at work, can have the necessary time to relieve themselves and eat.

“The location must meet the necessary requirements so that people who spend all day working have a place to do their business. Conditions must be created to allow for the movement of vessels on land, as well as those at sea, which occupy a large area of the pier, hindering daily activities at Cais da Praia,” he emphasized.

The conditions required by shipowners, he said, must be guaranteed by the government before it requires vessels to move to Praia Negra.

“We need to be sensitive, because without the necessary conditions, it will be difficult to move as the government wants,” he emphasized, noting that the vessels in question cost approximately 30 million contos and 40 million contos.
