Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Tourism and Transport said this Thursday that the redevelopment works in the fishing area of Salamansa, in São Vicente, will cost approximately 70 million escudos and have a six-month execution period.
José Luís Sá Nogueira was speaking to the press after presiding over the launch of the Salamansa redevelopment works, a project developed by the Government in partnership with the São Vicente City Council.
According to the governor, Salamansa is one of the locations that the Government has decided to support in terms of urban redevelopment, to benefit the population and also transform it into a tourist attraction in São Vicente.
“These are streets that will be paved. There is a whole process underway to prevent what happened recently from happening again when the rain comes. Therefore, there is a structural work that we will carry out here in Salamansa that will benefit the population,” he added, noting that the redevelopment works are only one stage and that the Government will continue to support the development of the locality.
According to the minister, the works for this project, which will be executed by the company Armando Cunha, should last about six months.
For the mayor of São Vicente, Augusto Neves, this project was conceived before the occurrence of Storm Erin, which is why the city hall had already applied for funding about two years ago.
But he guaranteed that, in addition to the requalification, other projects will be attached that will “considerably improve” the appearance of Salamansa.
“We have been working hard in this regard with the Ministry of Tourism and now, after the storm, we are able to improve and correct some torrential aspects,” said the mayor, who raised the possibility of coordinating with the minister to add more resources to the project to correct some ditches and spaces, despite the house renovation work that the city hall has already begun.
According to the mayor, projects connecting to the water and sewage network will be attached to the Salamansa area to benefit and improve the living conditions of the people in the community.
“Sewage is fundamental in a tourist area for the health of the population. It’s a project that the city hall can afford in its plans, and if we need to redevelop the area, we will have to do the sewage work first,” affirmed Augusto Neves, who expressed the “urgency in solving the problem,” since “the city hall has been clearing drums, tanks, and septic tanks” in the locality.
Regarding water, he explained that they have already worked on several projects, including with private individuals and with the knowledge of Electra. Therefore, he summarized, they will insist that the projects can be implemented.
