With the decoration, said the Head of State, José Maria Neves, intended to “demonstrate the gratitude of the Cape Verdean people for the way in which São Tomé and Príncipe has welcomed the Cape Verdean community”, making Cape Verdeans in that country feel at home, sharing challenges and constraints, in a spirit of brotherhood.

“This decoration is also to highlight his commitment, his leadership in bringing our two countries closer together and also in the search for better ways for Cape Verdeans living in São Tomé and Príncipe to feel, ever more , more integrated”, he explained.

Neves considered that both presidents of the states of the presidential system have a “fundamental role” in inclusion, unity and in the search for partnerships so that countries grow and become increasingly closer, in order to find better answers to the challenges to be faced in the future. bilateral field.

“With this gesture I also wanted to honor the people of São Tomé and Príncipe and say of our great openness in being able to continue together on this journey towards the future”, summarized José Maria Neves.

“Dignify the relationship even more”

The recipient, on the other hand, highlighted the “symbolism and importance of the act of decoration”, assuring that he feels truly considered at the highest level, for which he carries “the responsibility of his people and country to further dignify this relationship”.

“I will do everything possible to also dignify this act even more, because I consider it to be a responsibility that, from today, I bring with me for having been worthy of this consideration. By saying this, I sincerely want, through you, that all Cape Verdean people know that I am very proud to have deserved this consideration”, he stressed.

Carlos Vila Nova said that the two countries “have been walking hand in hand for a long time”, and that the bonds of brotherhood go beyond simple relations of cooperation and friendship and that, from now on, it is up to the two Heads of State to improve, even more, this relationship of fraternity.

Three-day visit to Santiago and São Vicente

Carlos Manuel Vila Nova’s visit runs from today to Thursday, the 16th, and, in addition to the tête-à-tête with his Cape Verdean counterpart, for whom he was decorated, he was welcomed by the President of the National Assembly, Austelino Correia, and will be received by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva.
