Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Executive Director of UNICEF Portugal believes in the positive impact of the projects implemented with the funds mobilized for Cabo Verde in 2024. Beatriz Imperatori began a four-day visit to São Vicente and Santo Antão this Monday. The mission to the archipelago comes in the wake of the resource mobilization campaign launched in 2024.
The purpose of the visit is to monitor and evaluate the implementation of projects in the field.
“To know the places where all the work will be carried out and to bring to all those who have placed their trust in us, who have been in the schools, we have seen things happen – water, toilets, protection, which is so important to guarantee – and we have seen everyone’s commitment. Things don’t happen overnight, nothing happens overnight,” said Beatriz Imperatori.
UNICEF Cabo Verde mobilized, with the support of the Portuguese Committee, more than 45 million escudos to support children in the archipelago, focusing on the health, education, water and sanitation sectors.
UNICEF representative in Cabo Verde, David Matern, who is accompanying the visit, explains that field visits are important to collect information about the needs of the communities.
“The main objective of our mission is to see the impact of our partnership, thanks to the campaign that the Committee launched last year. But UNICEF is in Cabo Verde to support the government, through the Education sector, the Ministry of Education,” he assured.
The initiatives are implemented based on PEDS II, taking into account the priority measures defined by the Government, namely the introduction of new vaccines for children under 1 year old, improvements in water, sanitation and hygiene in schools and communities, reinforcement of school transport in Santo Antão and Boa Vista, combating child labor and connection to the water network for vulnerable families on the island of Maio.
The visit continues today in Santo Antão, with working meetings with local authorities and visits to projects financed in the three municipalities on the island.
