Africa-Press – Cape verde. Mozambican social and political activist Graça Machel said this Saturday, 10, in the former concentration camp of Tarrafal (Santiago), that African youth has the historic mission of valuing resources so that they can produce wealth and well-being. for all Africans.

Graça Machel, winner of the North-South award and the UN Nansen Medal, launched this challenge in statements to the press, after participating as a “special guest” in the “Prime Minister Speaker Series” (a series of conversations with the Prime Minister), promoted , annually, by the head of the Government, Ulisses Correia e Silva.

The event, which took place at the Resistance Museum, in the former concentration camp of Tarrafal (Santiago Island), focused on topics such as education, gender equality, development and the fight against poverty.

“This country [Cape Verde] and the continent [Africa] is yours and it is you who will determine where Africans want to be and how Africans should be”, declared Machel, noting that the African continent has “riches” that others do not have. , taking as an example the issue of identity, awareness of what is worth and knowledge/knowledge.

Regarding the issue of knowledge/knowledge, she noted that Africa has knowledge that others do not have and that, according to her, should be valued and offered.

“And in a world where there is talk of exchange, we have much more to offer the whole world than any continent. So they have to know how we negotiate this, what we offer, but how do we want to value our own resources, how do we want to develop them so that they produce the wealth and well-being of all (…)”, he concluded.

“We all have the right to a life with dignity and this we can do and young people have this historic mission”, he considered, defending that African countries have to assume their own identity as agents of their trajectory and their way of assuming themselves. in the context of nations.

“Because of our colonial history, we are used to having others say who we are. What I am saying is that we have to change that position, we have to be the ones to say who we are, we Africans and what we have to offer the rest of the human family, (…)”, he underlined.

During her stay in Cape Verde, Graça Machel has scheduled a series of visits to entities in the country and some reference institutions, with emphasis on the meeting with the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, and visits to the Amílcar Cabral Foundation and the Instituto Pedro Pires (IPP).
