Africa-Press – Eswatini. Maxwell Jele, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) is in Botswana on a two-day mission to attend bilateral meetings.

Jele who is the new Secretary General of Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) will meet with Stanley Mutoya, the CEO of African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region V.

These meetings are taking place at the AUSC Region V offices, with the primary goal of strengthening cooperation between the two organizations.

It is noteworthy that ANOCA Zone VI and AUSC Region 5 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in December 2023, outlining areas of collaboration between the two institutions thus the two-day bilateral meetings.

According to EOCGA, the engagements over the next two days will expand on this MOU, focusing on developing an implementation plan for key areas of interest, particularly in athlete development. Additionally, there will be discussions on maximizing the resources available to both organizations to ensure maximum impact in joint programs, including the Region 5 Youth Games, which are held every two years.

Jele also took the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to the Botswana National Olympic Committee.

According to the BNOC, Jele will be engaging with regional stakeholders to shape the future of sports on the continent.

“BNOC CEO Ms. Dorothy Tlagae-Gaseitsiwe welcomed AUSC Region V CEO Mr. Staley Mutoya and newly elected ANOCA Secretary General Maxwell Jele. Visiting from Eswatini, Mr. Jele is engaging with regional stakeholders to shape the future of sports in Africa. Key discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral partnerships to better support athletes across the continent,” reads a statement from the BNOC.

Jele was elected unopposed as Secretary General of ANOCA during the elections held in Malawi last month. He is currently serving his second term as CEO of the EOCGA, having recently been awarded a four-year contract by the Executive Board headed by Bomber Mthethwa.

ANOCA, where Jele will serve for the next four years, is an international organisation based in Abuja, Nigeria, that unites the fifty-four African National Olympic Committees.
