Africa-Press – Eswatini. Miss Cultural Heritage Gcinizwi Tsikati celebrated her 21st birthday yesterday with children living with autism at the Autism Centre in Fairview, Manzini.
The special birthday celebration was also attended by representatives from the Manzini City Council and the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture.
Tsikati shared with this publication that her interest in autism was sparked after watching the TV series The Good Doctor. “I learned about the different types of autism. We leave people with the disease, but they live in their own ‘glass world’ because of the challenges of living with the disease. We see them and live with them, but we cannot communicate with them,” she explained.
She further expressed that it is always a privilege to teach anyone about culture, which is why she visited the centre to share more about their beautiful culture.
Tsikati also expressed her desire to encourage teachers at schools to attend workshops to learn about autism so they can be better equipped to handle students living with the condition.
According to Tsikati, the centre is in need of any kind of donation to help the children there.
Tsikati was crowned the queen at the Mlawula Camp Fire Festival last year in October. The Miss Cultural Heritage pageant, which resonates with the mission to uphold and enrich Eswatini’s heritage, is one of the key cultural endeavors that the community proudly supports.
Last year, in partnership with the National Arts and Culture Council, they renewed their commitment to this event, which serves as a platform to honor cultural pride and encourage young ambassadors to carry forward the values of EmaSwati.
The initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of our heritage and help the winners articulate the essence of EmaSwati with authenticity and pride.
